01_Collage_2018FA_YOUR NAME HERE
Focus
Learning the basics of selecting, copying and pasting as well as composition.
Assignment
You will be creating a digital collage using Photoshop and a combination of images you’ve shot as well as online images. The end photomontage does not have to be realistic but must convey an emotion of feeling that you choose.
Project requirements
While you will not get any additional points for doing the following, not doing them will result in a loss of points.
- The collage should be at least 1080 pixels on its smallest side (bigger is fine).
- The collage should be properly named as indicated in the ‘Naming Convention’ section at the top of this page.
- The project should be emailed to me – rlanciotti@pnca.edu – as a PSD file before class on the due date.
- All layers must be named.
Technical requirements
These are the things you need to do in Photoshop to show me you understand and have used some of the parts I’ve shown in demos.
- You need to have at least 5 image layers.
- You need at least 1 adjustment layer.
- Your layers need to be clean and not have any artifacts from the original image. (I’m sorry you will not be able to use the excuse that you where going for that aesthetic in your piece if you are interested in doing something that celebrates digital artifacts please talk to me as soon as you decide you want to do this.)
- You should have at least one digital image that you shot particularly for this project (not taken off your Instagram. Facebook or shot with Photobooth in class. Using your phone for this is fine)
Theory requirements
While your project will probably show a number more design elements than listed below, these should be the ones you pay special attention to when creating the piece.
- How well the collage displays your intended emotion.
- The strength of the composition, how the eye enters and moves through the composition.
- You use or variety and unity in the piece.
- There should be a sense of space and depth in the piece.
If you have any questions please ask me in class or email me as soon as possible.
